ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical features and etiological factors of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.MethodsClinical data of 46 patients(52 eyes)with NAION in the Department of Ophthalmology,Second Afiliated Hospital of ChongQing Medical Univercity during March 2009 to March 2011 were analyzed. Inclusive criteria:ill history, symptom, fundus, visual field and fluorescence fundus angiography(FFA) results were all in accordance with diagnosis criteria of NAION.Exclusive criteria:All the patients had no symptoms of giant cell arteritis.ResultsOf the 46 patients,21 were accompanied with hypertension,15 had cerebrovascular disease,14 were accompanied with diabetes,14 had smoking history, 3 were accompanied with arteriosclerosis,2 had small disk,1 was accompanied with postoperation cataract. Among them,44 eyes(84.62%) showed light color and edema of optic disc of fundus. 19 eyes(36.54%) showed visual fields defect connected to physiological blind spot.At the early stage of FFA,52 eyes(100%) showed all optic disc or parts of fluorescence filling was delayed or defect,at the later stage ,fluorescence falling was various. P-VEP P100 showed that amplitude was lower and latency period was slightly delayed. Color Doppler ultrasound showed abnormal but had no relationship in position with NAION..ConclusionNAION is an ophthalmocace caused by multiple factors, the dominant factors are hypertension, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and arteriosclerosis. Examination of visual acuity ,fundus, visual fields ,FFA,P-VEP combined with Color Doppler ultrasound of carotid arteries were main diagnostic evidences of this disease.
