Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect, complications and safety of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in treating advanced pancreatic cancer.Methods:FEP-BY02 HIFU Apparatus was applied to 11 cases of advanced pancreatic cancer. The 11 cases received 3-8 times (6.0 times in average) HIFU treatment .We observed therapeutic effects including of the changes of pain, KPS score, the clinical benefit response and imaging examinations.Results:1 .Out of the 11 cases, after treatment, pain disappeared in 2 cases (18%) and pain decreased in 9cases(82%).No case showed no changes of pain(0%).The NRS-11 Comment had significant difference (P<0.05);2.Quality of life(KPS score): the KPS score was (56.364±8.090)before treatment, and (75.455±8.907) after treatment (P<0.05);3.There were 10 clinical benefit response among 11 pancreatic carcinoma patients received high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). The clinical benefit response rate was 90.90%.4.There were 11 cases no change in the volume of tumor. Coagulated-necrosis on CDFI after HIFU treatment were observed. 5.No serious complication such as acute pancreatitis was observed. Conclusions: HIFU can effectively remit the pain of advanced pancreatic cancer and improve the quality of life. It has a high recent effective rate and is worth of further study.
