Purpose This study ,through the data analysis for income from 2003 to 2007, annual outpatient service person-times ,annual receiving patients and patient average-time medical cost of nine Chinese medicine hospitals above the county level in Xinjiang ,investigates and understands the operating and development status of Chinese medicine hospital in Xinjiang, and this study also analyses the Chinese medicine hospital revenue factor from the quantitative point of view to study impacts of the hospitals economic operation state , workload and the average-time medical costs on the hospital total income, by which, we can determine the sound development model suitable for the Chinese medicine hospitals in Xinjiang so as to control per capita costs and increase the service efficiency and propose the constructive opinions and suggestions for economic management level of the hospital and provide economics basis for the hospital administrators who will made the right decision and provide the effective basis for the health & administration departments which will assess the Chinese medicine hospitals body so as to ensure sustainability of future operation and development of Chinese medicine hospitals in Xinjiang region. Methods We adopted the petrospective study method, and according to the economic development level in Xinjiang and actual conditions of the development of Chinese medicine all over the Xinjiang region, selected nine Chinese medicine hospitals, and collected the financial statements data from 2003 to 2007. At the same time, we adopted the comparative analysis, factor analysis and related analysis to analyze the impacts of the workload and average medical expenses per time and fixed assets on the business total income growth of the hospital. Results 1.The business income of the sampled nine Chinese medicine hospital grows ,but the loss is expanded .Compared with the same level comprehensive hospital, the medicine income of Chinese medicine hospital accounted for the proportion of total income is not dominant. The growth rate of the average fixed assets in the nine Chinese medicine hospitals is 22.43 percent, which increased by 124.75 percent on average than the base year (2003), but the growth between the hospital is imbalance; the average assets liabilities ratio is 40.67 percent, and it greatly depends on the external funds in the process of the development; The fixed rate of return is 17.90 percent on average, which reflects that the level of efficiency in the use of fixed assets is not high; the average flow rate reaches 104.6 percent ,which reflects that the short-term solvency of the hospital is not bad; the average liquidity ratio is 58.5 percent and this indicator is on the low side, which shall be paid attention .The outpatient service person-times, hospitalization person-times in the Provinces and municipal hospitals basically grows ;of which ,the outpatient service person-times in the provincial and municipal hospitals grows more larger and that in the county or state hospitals grows smaller. Hospitalization person-times growth in the nine Chinese medicine hospitals is relatively stable, and that of the provincial and municipal hospitals and county hospitals grow relatively larger. The efficiency of the provincial and municipal hospitals is improved each year, and services amount also grows, but the situation in the hospital with low level is not clear. The out-patient costs in the sampled hospitals shows the trend of growth year by year. The patient average medicine cost in the sampled hospitals shows the trend of growth year by year and the growth trend of per capita examination cost of the patients is more obvious in a whole. 2.Although the workload and the average-time cost has influence on the business total income of the hospital, the workload's increase covers the dominant factors. 3.The relevant levels of the indexes relevant to the total business income growth of hospitals from low to high are: investment in fixed assets, hospitalization person-times, out-patient times, hospitalization average-time cost, and out-patient average-time cost. Conclusion 1.The income structure of Chinese medicine hospitals has the further optimizing space and the debt paying ability is subject to enhance. 2.Improving the efficiency of the service is an important support to achieve the income growth of Chinese medicine hospital. 3.Expansion of fixed assets is propitious to increase the business income of Chinese medicine hospitals...
