Objective To develop a specific quality of life scale for eczema patients.Method Based on the definition of quality of life from WHO, the theory construction was put forward and the item pool was formed after extensively consulting the Generic and dermatosis-specific quality of life and adopting some ideas and suggestions from our research group. 351 eczema patients had been recruited in the study. Five methods had been used in the item analyzing, such as t-test, correlation analysis, factor analysis and so on. Such items reserved form the Eczema Quality of Life Scale (EQOLS). The reliability and validity of the scale were also tested. The reliability analysis included the Cronbach'sα, split-half reliability and test-retest reliability. The validity analysis included construct validity, criterion-related validity and discriminant validity.Result (1) An 28-item test version of life quality scale for eczema patients was developed, including 4 domains (morbid, physical, social psychological) and one item on general QOL.(2) The test-retest correlation coefficient, Cronbach's a coefficient and split-half reliability coefficient of EQOLS were 0.912, 0.9346 and 0.9046, respectively (P <0.01).(3) The total score of the EQOLS had significantly positive correlation with scores of DQOL, EASI, the item on general QOL. Correlation coefficients of them were 0.795, 0.805, 0.812, respectively. (P<0.01).(4) The correlation coefficients between items and the total score of the scale ranged from 0.472 to 0.724. The total EQOLS scores were significantly decreased after one week's treatment(P<0.01). Confirmatory factor analysis showed that x~2/df=2.211, CFI=0.902, NNFI=0.892, RMSEA=0.059, respectively. Conclusion EQOLS is reliable, valid, and can be used to evaluate the quality of life for eczema patients.
