ObjectiveThis investigation examines the reliability, validity of the Chinese version Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) 4.0 Generic Core Scales in pediatric Epilepsy.Methods1. The study sample was comprised of 163 parents of children with Epilepsy between the ages of 2 and 18 years, who were administered by the instrument.2. Reliability was assessed by Cronbach's alpha.3. Validity was assessed by using exploratory factor analysis, exploring the intercorrelations between the four subscales and t-test.Results1. The internal consistency reliability for Total scale Score, Physical Health Summary Score, and Psychosocial Health Summary Score were excellent listed as Cronbach's alpha 0.94, 0.92, and 0.91 respectively.2. Four major factors were extracted by factor analysis which basically matched the designed structure of the original version accounting for 65.65% of the variance.3.For all scales, the scores of the healthy children are higher than patients with epilepsy(P<0.001)4.The correlations between items and the subscales are mostly high, ranged above 0.50(P<0.01)ConclusionsThe reliability and validity of the parent proxy-report scales of PedsQLTM 4.0 Generic Core Scales of the Chinese Version were as good as the original version, and can be used to evaluate the Health-related Quality Of Life of children with epilepsy.
