【Objective】To investigate the expession FGF3(fibroblast growth factor 3)in BTCC(bladder transitional cell carcinoma)tissues and its clinical significance; To investgate its roles in tumor angiogenesis in human BTCC;To provide theory for diagnosising and treating BTCC.【Methods】50 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma tissues and 10 cases of normal bladder epithelial tissue were embeded in paraffin and slicied. We assessed the expression of FGF3 by immunohistochemistry in 50 bladder transitional cell carcinoma and 10 cases of normal bladder epithelial tissue. The monoclonal antibody CD34 is a marker in vascular endothelial cell, according to the numbers of CD34,we selected the microvessel most abundant area(hot spot)and calculated tumor microvessel density(MVD).To obeserve:(1).The expression of FGF3 in BTCC and normal bladder epithelial tissue;(2).The relation between the expression of FGF3 and BTCC clinical stage, pathology grade, size, the number of tumor and tumor recurrence.(3)The difference of MVD between BTCC and normal bladder epithelial tissue;(4)The relation between MVD and BTCC clinical stage, pathology grade, size, the number of tumor and tumor recurrence.【Results】1.In bladder transitional cell carcinoma tissues, the expression of FGF3 was identified in 37 cases(74%),but in the normal bladder epithelial tissue, the expression of FGF3 was negative;2.The expression of FGF3 was significantly correlated with clinical stage, pathology grade, size, tumor recurrence(P<0.05),it is not associated with the number of tumor(P=0.065);3.The MVD was significantly higher in bladder transitional cell carcinoma tissues than in that of normal bladder epithelial tissue(P=0.017),MVD was significantly correlated with clinical stage, pathology grade, size, tumor recurrence,MVD was not associated with the number of tumor(P=0.061);4.The level of FGF3 expression significantly correlated with MVD(P=0.034).【Conclusions】1.In bladder transitional cell carcinoma tissues, the expression of FGF3 was high, but in the normal bladder epithelial tissue, the expression of FGF3 was negative;2.There was significant correlation between the level of FGF3 expression and clinical stage, pathology grade, size, tumor recurrence, but it was not associated with the number of tumor,it may be a novel diagnosis and prognostic factor in BTCC;3.MVD was significantly associated with clinical stage, pathology grade, size, tumor recurrence, but it was not associated with the number of tumor,FGF3 may be a useful index to prognosis;4.In bladder transitional cell carcinoma tissues, the expression of FGF3 was significantly correlates with MVD,FGF3 may be a useful decision-making biomarker for the treatment of BTCC.Anti-FGF3 and anti-microvessel treatment may be new and effective therapy against BTCC.
