Background: Allergic asthma is a common and frequently encountered disease. Many people still experience suboptimal control of symptoms despite allergen avoidance and medical therapy. Allergic specific immunotherapy(SIT) has been used for almost a century as a desensitizing therapy for allergic diseases and represents as the only curative and specific method of treatment. Objectives: To investigate the clinical therapeutic effects and the security of SIT on the patients with allergic asthma. Methods: All the 28 patients were definitely diagnosised as allergic asthma. Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus skin tests and skin index"++~++++"were required to be enrolled into the investigation. The SIT was performed in the 28 patients using the standardized house dust mite vaccine. Clinical investigation time was one year at least. Observation items were: basic medications, clinical symptoms control score, skin index and side effects of SIT. Observation methods: the medications, clinical symptoms and side effects were noted by doctor at every follow-up therapy. Results: The main symptoms of allergic asthma were significantly alleviated in most patients. Twenty- eight patients completeted one year specific immunotherapy. A clinically significant increase in the asthma control sores was founded in all 28 patients when compared with those of pretreatment, and the difference was significant (P<0.05). Twenty-two patients completed one and a half years of SIT .At this time point, a clinically increase in the asthma control sores was founded in the 22 patients when comparied with those at one year treatment time point, but the difference was not significant (P>0.05). The total effective rate was 92.86% when the treatment was one year. 113 local adverses and 23 systemic reactions has occurred in total 730 injections, and no fatal systemic reactions occurred in the treatment process. Conclusion: SIT with standardized allergen is an effective and safe treatment in patients suffering from allergic asthma due to dust mites. SIT can be used as a routine treatment to allergic asthma. The key to success of SIT: (1) choose the right patients, (2)use standardized allergic vaccine, (3) combine with symptomatic drugs, (4) adhere to completing the course.
