The Status Quo Of The Application Of Self-Care Model For Clinical Nursing Practice

OBJECTIVE:1,To identity the application of self-care model in clinical care;2,To confirm the cognition about self-care philosophy and the knowledge about self-care model of the nurse;3,To explore the difference of cognition about self-care philosophy among different nursing groups;4,To analyze the factors which influence the application of self-care model in clinical care, so as to provide some basis for the establishment of work procedures and routine of work for the clinical application of self-care model .METHODS:Questionnaires were sent to 385 RNs from hospital in Chong Qing, collecting data by the means of cluster sampling method. And the cognition about self-care philosophy, knowledge about self-care model and the status of clinical application of self-care model in these RNs were investigated by self-designed questionnaires; all data were logged by Epidata 3.1 software and analyzed by Spss 15.0 software.RESULT:1,The top and lowest score on the cognition of self-care philosophy in the RNs is 21 and 11 respectively, and the averaged score is 17.8±0.12. there was significant difference in scores on the cognition of self-care philosophy among nursing groups of different education backgrounds, ages and medical specific(p<0.05).And the scores in bachelor degree RNs were higher than other lower educational background, in 26~35 aged RNs were higher than others, in surgical department RNs were higher than medical department. But there were not significant differences among nursing groups of different grand hospitals, work age, professional title and employment way(p>0.05).2,The averaged scores on the self-care knowledge is 4.5±1.4, the top and lowest score is 8 and 1 respectively. There was significant difference in score among nursing groups of medical specific(p<0.05).3,The frequency of the application of self-care model in RNs between"did often"and"did few and far between", and RNs trend to often give the self-care knowledge to patients or patients'relative and often encourage patients learning self-care. But seldom let patients participate the nursing care plan and evaluation. There was 48.4% RNs who assessed the patients'self-care agency and self-care demand by talking to patients and their relative, and there was 40.0% RNs who think the main difficult of application self-care model in clinical nursing practice was the patients.4,Nurses'working age, profession title, cognition level of self-care philosophy were the main factors which influence the application of self-care model.CONCLUSION:1,The RNs cognition about self-care philosophy was not high, and know little the theory of self-care model, clinical nursing education should pay attention to the theory of self-care model.2,The self-care model was still not applied right and effectively in the clinical nursing practice. It is should to set up corresponding guidelines, work procedures and routine of work for the clinical application of self-care model .
