Study on drug metabolism plays an important role in drug research and development. Recent years, metabolite analysis for chemical constituents of Traditional Chinese Medicine also attracts a great interest. In this lecture, some research has been carried on of the Rhizoma Chuanxiong. The essential oil in Chuanxiong has been extracted and analysised. Ligustilide, the chief active component, has been separated and purified with column chromatography method. A method for the determination of ligustilide in the oil and biosamples by HPLC has been developed. And this method has been used in the kinesis Pharmacokinetics and biotransformation studies in mouse and rat. A method for the determination of ligustilide in hepatic cytomicrosome incubation system by LC-ESI-MS has been developed too. And the in-vitro metabolism of ligustilide in hepatic cytomicrosome incubation was studied use this method. The biotransformation has been found. All of these studies provide scientific data and enlighten the thought for the modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
