In China,Veratrum stenophyllum,with the Chinese name "Li-lu",is one of species of the genus Veratrum(Liliaceae).The roots and rhizomes of several Veratrum species,including Veratrum nigrum L.,V.dahuricum(Turcz.)Loes.f.,V.Schindleri Loes.f.,V.maackii Regel,V.taliense Loes.f.,etc.have been used to treat aphasia arising from apoplexy,wind-type dysentery,jaundice, scabies and chronicmalaria for centuries.By many kinds of separation methods,33 compounds were isolated from Veratrum nigrum Linn.Their structures were elucidated based on spectra data(1H-NMR,13C-NMR,DEPT, 1H-1HCOSY,NOESY,HMQC,HMBC,EI-MS,ESI-MS,IR).*BF-1Δ5,11.13-veratratrienine-3β,23β-diol,*BF-2 13α-hydroxy-Δ11-cyclopamine,*BF-3 15β-hydroxy jervine,BF-4 Jervine,BF-5 Veraramine,BF-6 Etioline,BF-7 28: 14-hydroxy-Δ11-cyclopamine,BF-8 Germerine,BF-9 Protoveratrine B,BF-10 3-angeloylzygenine, BF-11 Germidine,BF-12 3-veratroylzygadenine,BF-13 Germine,BF-14 Germanitrine,BF-15 angeloygadenine,BF-16 germanaline,BF-17 Stenophylline A,BF-18 Verazine,BF-19 Veramitaline, BF-20 Veramiline-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside,BF-21 Zygadenine,BF-22 Etioline-3-O-glucoside, BF-23 Deacetylprotoveratrine B,BF-24 Neogermidine,BF-25 Quercetin,BF-26 Apigenin,BF-27 5,7,3',4'-tetrahydroxy-flavone,BF-28 5,7,3'-trihydroxy-4'-methoxyl-flavine,BF-29 Resveratrol, BF-30 Oxyresveratrol BF-31 3,3',4,5'-tetrahydroxy- stilbene,BF-32β-sitosterol,BF-33 Daucosterol.BF-1,BF-2 and BF-3 are novel compounds isolated from Veratrum nigrum Linn.22 compounds BF-5,BF-6,BF-7,BF-8,BF-9,BF-10,BF-11,BF-14,BF-15,BF-16,BF-18,BF-19, BF-20,BF-22,BF-23,BF-24,BF-25,BF-26,BF-27,BF-28,BF-29,BF-30 were isolated for the first time in this plant.Biotransformation of veraramine was carried out.Four biotransformation products were obtained:Tra- 1 1α-hydroxyveratramine,Tra-2 7-hydroxyveratramine,Tra-3 1,7-dihydroxyveratramine,Tra-4 unamed.All were new compounds.Conclusion:33 compounds were obtained from Incarvillea delavayi,including 3 new compounds,22 compounds isolated from this plant for the first time.Biotransformation of veraramine was carried out.Four biotransformation products were obtained.All were new compounds.
