| The theory of Chinese herbal property is one of the guiding theory of TCM, which is composed of multiple contents. However, nowadays, so much attention has been paid to the clinical herbal efficacy, and the herbal property has been neglected, especially the four herbal property, namely the herbal nature of cold, hot, warm and cool. So this paper mainly focus on the four herbal property to do the literatural study.Firstly, expounding on the effects of the basic herbal property theory, and tracing its origin in the TCM classic book ---- The Yellow Emperor's Canon of Internal Medicine,by using the Chinese literatural methods. Then, giving a brief introduction of the TCM classic herbal book such as The Shen Nong's Herbal Classic and the Explanatory Note to Shen Nong's Herbal Classic, etc. Basing on the clue of the four herbal property, selecting the TCM herbs used in Treatise on cold-induced and miscellaneous diseases as a carrier, because these herbs are still extensively prescribed by the physician, this paper do research and comparison to the statistics of these herbs' four property, choosing the recordation in two different classical herbal books: The Shen Nong's Herbal Classic in the Eastern Han dynasty and The Chinese Herbs in modern time, and analyzing the potential reasons for these herbal property's change. Through a systemic study, giving a new sight on the herbs' nature of"moderate", which is completely different to the four herbal property, and these nature should been emphasized in the clinic practice. The last part of this study is as follow: connecting with the character of the TCM formula, which mean"hot"and"cold", to explore the relationship between the herbs and the TCM formula, the conclusion is that the herbal property is a component elements of the nature of the formula, so we should pay high attention to the four herbal property of TCM herbs. |
