Maintenance hemodialysis has been accepted widely as the chosen treatment forend stage renal disease(ESRD). The treatment regimens that hemodialysis patientsmust follow include diet restriction, medication regimens and fluidrestriction.Among these regimens, adhering to fluid restriction is the most difficultone rated by maintenance hemodialysis patients.Health beliefs are the keys thatpatients can receive persuasion and change their unhealthy behaviors. However,it isstill uncertain about the relation between fluid adherence and health beliefs(perceived barriers, perceived benefits, perceived seriousness,perceivedsusceptibility,self-efficacy) in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Objective: 1) To describe the status of fluid adherence in maintenancehemodialysis patients.2) To identify the demographic and medical charactericsaffecting the hemodialysis patients'fluid adherence. 3)To explore the relationbetween fluid adherence and health beliefs in Chinese maintenance hemodialysispatients.Methods:162 hemodialysis patients in four tertiary hospitals of Beijing participatedin the study. And information was obtained about patients' fluid adherence and theirhealth beliefs in fluid restriction. Results: Approximately 46.3ï¼…hemodialysis patients couldn't adhere to fluidrestriction.Patients' perceived barriers is negatively correlated with fluidadherence. And perceived benefits and self-efficacy are positively correlated withfluid adherence. In the logistic regression model, fluid adherence is predicted byage and educational degree. Conclusions:Hemodialysis patients' fluid adherence is suboptimal in China.Decreasing patients'perceived barriers or increasing their perceived benefits and self-efficacy may help to improve their fluid adherence. There are somedemographic factors that may affect patients' fluid adherence such as age andeducational degree. It is urgent to develope Chinese standardized guidelines aboutfluid adherence in hemodialysis.Health care providers should strengthen the healtheducation on patients' perceived barriers, perceived benefits and self-efficacy.In themeanwhile, according to different demographic characteristics, health care providersshould apply effective interventions to improve patients' fluid adherence. |
