Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the imitative mental health status of undergraduate nursing students who were in nursing training. Longitude study was adopted to investigate the mutative regular pattern of mental health status, and to explore the objective factors which influence mental health status of nursing students and provide a reliable basis for finding psychological problems, giving timely health education and searching preventing ways.Methods:①All together 295 nursing students from two medical colleges in Hunan and Shandong Provinces who were in nursing training were evaluated, they were divided into two groups: The undergraduate students group (including 165 samples) and the junior college students group (including 130 samples). College Seniors Stress Scale (CSSS) and Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) were adopted in the study which lasted 8 months and contained 5-times measurements. By the help of SPSS 13.0, two-sample t-test, repeated measure analysis and SNK-q test were adopted to investigate the mutative regular pattern of mental health status and the differences between the two groups;②Pearson correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis were adopted to analyze the relations between the variation of CSSS and the variation of mental health status in different training stages. Results:①The two-sample t test analysis indicated that for the undergraduate nursing students the total scores of SCL-90 at different times were lower than the Youth Norm of China (p<0.05 or 0.01);②The chi-square test indicated that the positive mental problem rate was higher in junior college nursing students than that in undergraduate nursing students;③The repeated measure analysis indicated that the mental health status were different along with the change of time (p<0.05), there were differences between groups (p<0.05) , and interaction was found between time and group (p<0.05) ;④The two-sample t test analysis indicated that comparing with the junior college students, except scores at TO and T1, significant differences insisted between the two groups at T3, T5 and T7;⑤SNK-q test indicated that the total scores of SCL-90 of the undergraduate nursing students at T3 were lower than that at TO, T5 and T7(p<0.05), and there were no significant differences among the total scores of SCL-90 at TO and that at T5 and T7 (p>0.05); For the junior college nursing students, the lowest point of the total scores of SCL-90 appeared at T1, lower than that at T5 and T7 (p<0.05), and there was no significant difference between T5 and T7;⑥Pearson correlation analysis indicated that there were positive correlations between the frequency variations on most factors of CSSS and the variations of the total scores of SCL-90(p<0.05 or 0.01);⑦Stepwise regression analysis indicated that different factors entered the regression equation at different stages (p<0.05 or 0.01).Conclusion:①During the first 7 months, the mental health status of undergraduate nursing students were positive, compared with the Youth Norm of China and that of junior college nursing students;②At different time, the mental health status of undergraduate nursing students were better than that of junior college nursing students;③From 2 weeks before nursing training to the end of month 7th, the mental health status of undergraduate nursing students presented ascending first and then descending gradually, but the status of junior college nursing students kept stable first and then dropped gradually;④The effective factors of mental health status were different at the different stages;⑤Nursing educators should pay more attention to the mental health status of nursing students, especially before and at the middle of the training, and developmultiple education forms.
