Study Of Clinicopathological Characters And The Expression Of P21WAF1,p53,Ki-67 In Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor

Objectives: to explore the clinicopathological characters of gastrointestinal stromaltumors (GIST), the expression of p21WAF1, p53, Ki-67 and the relationshipbetween these parameters and clinicopathologic characters.Methods: ninety three cases of GIST were reviewed from pathologic archives, aseries of markers such as CD117, CD34 were examined simultaneously, theexpression status ofp21WAF1,p53,Ki-67 in GIST was explored.Results: There were 56 males and 37 females in 93 GISTs, the age ranged from 17-78years old, the mean age was 55 years old and the median age was 56 years old. 93cases of GIST distributed in esophagus (1 case), stomach (62 cases), duodedum (4cases), small intestine (14 cases), colon (2 cases), rectum (9 cases) and there was acase involved stomach and intestine simultaneously. Histologically, the majority werespindle cell type (77 cases), 10 cases were epitheloid type, and the left 6 cases werespindle and epitheloid mixed type. The tumor size ranged from 1-25cm, the mean sizewas 7.46cm. the mitosis varied from zero to 55 per high power field. GIST weredivided into benign (10 cases), borderline (61 cases) and malignant (22 cases). Thepositive rate of CD117, CD34 were 97.8% and 69.9%; The positive rate ofp21WAF1,p53,Ki-67 in GIST were 66.6%, 40.8%, and 72.0% respectively. Thepositive rate of P21WAF1 in benign, borderline, and malignant GIST were 30%,67.2%, 81.8%, respectively, the expression of p21WAF1 exhibits significantdifference among benign, borderline, and malignant GIST (P＜0.05), P53 were 0,32.7%, 81.8%, Ki-67 were 10%, 75.4%, and 81.8%, both of p53 and Ki-67 alsopresent significant difference (P＜0.05)..Conclusions: It played important role in differentiating diagnosis that the expressionof a panel of antibodies such as CD 117, CD34, and etc. Another panel antibodies ofp21WAF1, p53, Ki-67 might help to evaluate the biological behavior.
