Objective: To investigate the prophylaxis effect of Jiaweigutongxian capsules on streptozotocin—induced osteoporosis in rats by measuring bone mineral density and VDR-mRNA measurement.Methods: 40 wistar rats were randomly divided into normal group, control group, JC group and model group 10 each group . The rats in control JC and model group were injected with streptozotocin(60mg/kg, dilution with PBS, preparing into the density which is 2% aquas ) After one week ,measured the blood sugar number of rats .select at 15.5~22.5mmol/L. Two groups all used erjiashuanggua as the foundational medicine, and the rats in JC and control groups were administrated with JC and ca2co3 capsules respectively frombase-line. The normal and model groups were administrated with same quantity of physiology brine. The rats were killed after 12 weeks to measure biochemical markers . And then observe bone mineral density and VDR-mRNA .Results: BMD in the control group was significantly lower than model group(p<0.05). BMD in the JC group was higher than other three groups. BMD in the JC group and in the control group had significantly difference(p<0.05). From the showing level of VDR-mRNA in the four groups, In the JC group , the level of VDR-mRNA showed strong masculine gender. In the control group, the level of VDR--mRNA showed masculine gender. In the normal group, the level of VDR-mRNA was weak masculine gender. But, in the model group was feminine gender. Every group had significantly difference (p<0.05).Conclusion: it seemed that JC was potentially effective in preventing DO through the following mechanisms: to increase the level of VDR-mRNA Increase bone formation and inhibit bone resorption.
