Objective:To observe the influence of quality of life(QOL) of patients with essential hypertension(EH)ofgrade 2 treated by "No. 1 Grain" of Decompression, which accords the principle of removingblood stasis and tonifying liver and kidney. So as to give a new idea and method in evaluatingthe curative effect of traditional Chinese medicine.Methods:1. Totally 60 EH of grade 2 patients which treated in the Quan zhou Hospital of TraditionalChinese Medieine among August 2005 to December 2006 were adopted. The patients weredivided into two groups by numerical form randomly. There were 30 in each group, whichwere the treatment group and the control group. Captopril conventional was takenantihypertensive therapy to control group. On the basis of using captopril, the treated groupadd" No. 1 Grain "treatment.2. After one treatment course of 8 weeks, all the patients were evaluated in clinical effects andQOL, and also were analyzed the side effects twice when entered the random experiment andtreatment end.3. To analysis the changes of influence of QOL and clinical effects before and after treatment. Results: 1. Blood pressure showed negative correlation with the quality of life scores before treatment(P<0.01). The blood pressure was related to the QOL. But there was no correlation betweenblood pressure and QOL(P>0.05).2. The differences were extremely significant in the QOL total score of two groups before andafter treatment(P<0.01). There was a significant difference in the QOL total score betweentwo groups after the treatment(P<0.01).3. Both of the groups had extremely significant differences in the physical symptoms, energy, psychological state, repression, relationship, work state, hostility, ability of everday life andthe cognitive function(P<0.01orP<0.05). In addition, the patients of treatment group hadsignificant differences in the body symptoms, sexual function, sleep state, compulsion and thecognitive function after treatment(P<0.01 orP<0.05).4. There was a significant difference on body symptoms, sexual function and sleep statebetween two groups after the treatment (P<0.01). And the difference was also significant inenergy, work state and hostile(P<0.05).5. The treatment group had significant differences in serum total cholesterol (TC) and lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL) compared with those before treatment (P<0.01), but the change ofhigh density lipoprotein (HDL) had not significant difference before and after treatment(P>0.05). The control group had significant difference in LDL before and aftertreatment(P<0.05). After treatment the comparsion of two groups suggested that TC and LDLwere obviously decreased (P<0.01), and the change of HDL was not obviously (P>0.05).6. Syndrome scores of two groups was negatively correlated with quality of lifescores(P<0.05). There was correlation between the TCM syndrome and the quality of life.7. The differences of syndrome scores of two groups before and after treatment wereextremely significant (P<0.01). There were significant differences between two groups aftertreatment in syndrome scores (P<0.05). The symptom curative effect between two groups hadsignificant differences(P<0.01).Conclusions:1. With the increased in blood pressure, the quality of life decreased. The improvement of theQOL has not been entirely even the blood pressure decreased.2. There was correlation between the TCM syndrome and the quality of life. And the improvement of the quality of life of patients was directly related to the improvement ofclinical symptoms.3. The "No. 1 Grain" could significantly improved the quality of life, and had an obviousadvantage in body symptoms, sexual function, sleep state, energy, work state and hostilecompared with captopril.4. The comprehensive effects of "No. 1 Grain" combined with western medicine group werebetter than that of group using the western medicine only.5. The "No. 1 Grain" could decreased the level of the serum total cholesterol(TC)and lowdensity lipoprotein(LDL), but the change of HDL is not obviously.6. The "No. 1 Grain" was no obvious toxicity, and it was safe for the clinical application.
