Objective People's recognitions about medicine are rising as the developments of medical science. Medical model has changed profoundly from the traditional "biologic" form to the modern "biologic-psychologocal-societal" form. The importance of psychological factors to the preventative medicine and therapy has much been attached to. This transformation is also affecting the clinic diagnosis and treatment. At present, the beginning time of orthodontic therapies to adolescents is mainly centralized to the physiological development, and there are no reports about the psychological concerns. The purpose of this study is to discuss the necessary of thinking about the psychological development of adolescents before orthodontic therapies, which may offer evidences to our orthodontic jobs.Methods 126 adolescent patients using fixed appliances were chosen to the study. Of the total, 112 patients finished questionnaire investigations to their psychologic status and noncompliance in their therapies.1. Data collection: Informants of the study got a kind of questionnaire investigations named SCL-90 measuring scale before their fixed orthodontics, and the instances of the noncooperation behaviors were recorded2. Data statistics: 112 SCL-90 measuring scales were analyzed statistically and given scores of every factor in the measuring scale. Then people distributing of every factor was calculated which was divided into psychology health, light psychological problem and serious psychological problem. To those who were noncooperated, everyone was given a score of their noncooperation, and the scores were divided into three sections.3. Data analyzing: A contingency table was formed according to people distribution of the factors in SCL-90 measuring scales and three sections of noncooperation scores. Then we start a qualitative variable analyzing.Results Psycho-health levels of adolescent before fixed orthodontics have great correlation to noncooperation behaviors in therapies. Enforce gene, sensitive interpersonal relationship, depress, anxiety, hostile, fear, leaning, psychosis and other psychologic status are related with noncooperation behaviors. This correlation has statistical significance according to chi-square criterion.Conclusion the adolescent stage is one in which teenagers' psychologic status are gradually maturing. It is also an importance stage to a person' psychologic development in which there are many psychologic problems. Psycho-heath levels fluctuate among different grades, and they are different before and after examinations. As an importance group of fixed orthodontics, adolescents' psychologic status should be attached much importance to. If therapies start at a time when patients' psychologic status are very health, noncooperation behaviors will certainly reduced, which may raise the quality of therapies and do good to their body and mind. So it is necessary to concern about the psychologic status before fixed orthodontics.
