Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the association between brachial-ankle pulse wave (baPWV) and B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP) and diastolic heart failure in elderly patients with coronary artery disease.Method: We analyzed 154 elder patients with coronary artery disease, including 54 female patients, average age is 82.00±3.77 years old and including 100 male patients, average age is 77.46±5.97 years old. Arterial stiffness was assessed by baPWV using the VP-1000 Automatic Arteriosclerosis Measurement System. The cardic diastolic function was assessed by Doppler echo cardiography with the parameter E/A. Check the patients' blood and acquire the result of BNP, TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, FBG, BUN, CR, UA et al. We analyze these data with the statistics software SPSS12.0.Results: The mean age is 79.05 ±5.72 years old. The mean value of PWV is 2040.92±311.07cm/s. We analyze the higher PWV of double body. We find that PWV is significant associated with age, height, ABI, B-type natriuretic peptide, systolic blood pressure , diastolic blood pressure ,fasting blood glucose, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol , blood urea nitrogen and E/A. There is no relation between PWV and weighu BMK heart rate, TG, Cr.Conclusion: Brachial-ankle PWV was associated with plasma BNP levels independent of age. Our previous study demonstrated a significant association between the brachial-ankle PWV and the cardiac diastolic function. We simultaneously evaluated the relationship of PWV with parameters of atherosclerosis and parameters of risk for heart dysfunction. The results show that PWV was significantly related to cardiac diastolic function and plasma BNP level. It is suggest that increased PWV is a possible risk factor for diastolic heart failure.
