Peripheral facial paralysis is a common disease in clinical experience, which often occurs. And the wind-cold type is the most common type of this disease, which covers the percentage of 76%. With the improvement of the human's recognition to the disease, the treating methods also gradually develop and perfect. However, the epidemic research shows the disease has an increasing occurrence tendency in recent years. Therefore, how to take an active measure to treat the disease has become a problem which needs badly to solve. In this article, the treating therapies to this disease are analyzed and discussed in details. This article introduces the concept, the cause and the common treating therapies of peripheral facial paralysis and the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis. The article discusses the possibilities of nerve recovering by analyzing the feature of facial nerves and thus lays a solid theoretical foundation for the part of experiment. The materials are from the clinical patients suffering from the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis in 2005 and 2006. Altogether there are 92 cases are taken at random ranging from the acupuncture treatment, the western medical treatment and the combination of acupuncture & western medical treatment. These cases are divided into the acupuncture treatment group, the western medical treatment group and the combination of acupuncture & western medical treatment group, so as to observe the treating effect of different treating therapies.Cases used in the study were the wind-cold type peripheral facial paralysis patients from 2005 to 2006 in out-patient clinic (OPD) of special course.1. Constituent ratio of age in the wind-cold type peripheral facial paralysis patients There are 276 cases used in this study in 2005-2006 for the experts' clinic, including male 144 cases and female 132 cases. The minimum age is 4 years old while the maximum age is 76 years old. 38 cases aged from 0-year old to 20-year old which stands 13.8%, 73 cases aged from 21-year old to 45-year old which stands 26.4% and 165 cases aged from 46-year old to 80-year old which stands 59.8%. It indicates that the old have more chances to take this disease.2. The situation of the wind-cold type peripheral facial paralysis in the crowd with various jobsThere is no obvious difference in various jobs in 276 cases. Fanner and worker take a little more percent which is 21% and 18% respectively while the government official and others are relative less which stands 17% and 12%.3. The constituent ratio of the wind-cold type peripheral facial paralysis patients with or without case history of chronic disease. There are 190 patients have chronic disease in 276 patients, including angiocardiopathy (CD), diabetes, pulmonary tuberculosis, liver ailment, nephrosis and so on, which stands 69%. 86 patients have no case history of chronic disease which stands 31%. It indicates that the patients who have the case history of chronic disease have more chances to take this disease. The 276 patients are divided into three group: A, B and C.A group: (acupuncture therapy), B group: (western medicine therapy), C group: (combination with A group and B group therapy). Each group contains 92 cases.Statistical analysis the curative effect of these therapies (acupuncture, western medicine and the combination with acupuncture and western medicine) to the different gender and different pathogenesis of patients.1. The observation of acupuncture treating effect of the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis of different sexesGroup A cases: 49 are male and 43 are female. The treating therapy in this group is acupuncture treatment. All the patients are better off after the treatment, which indicates the acupuncture therapy has certain treating effect in treating wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis. There is no sexual difference of treating effect and the statistics shows no significant difference (p>0.05)2. The observation of western medical treating effect of the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis of different sexesGroup B cases: 48 are male and 44 are female. The treating therapy in this group is western medical treatment. All the patients are better off after the treatment, which indicates the western medical therapy has certain treating effect in treating wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis. There is no sexual difference of treating effect and the statistics shows no significant difference (p>0.05).3. The observation of acupuncture treating effect of the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis of different disease coursesGroup A: there are 48 patients whose disease courses are within one week, 26 patients whose disease courses are from one week to two months (18 in the rest cases whose disease courses are beyond two months, 7 not completing the treatment). The treating therapy in this group is acupuncture treatment. All the patients are better off after the treatment and the treating effect of shorter disease course is better than of longer disease course. The statistics shows significant difference (p<0.05).4. The observation of western medical treating effect of the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis of different disease coursesGroup B: there are 55 patients whose disease courses are within one week, 29 patients whose disease courses are from one week to two months (6 in the rest cases whose disease courses are beyond two months, 2 not completing the treatment). The treating therapy in this group is western medical treatment. All the patients are better off after the treatment and the treating effect of shorter disease course is better than of longer disease course. The statistics shows significant difference (p<0.05).5. The observation of the above 3 treating effect of the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysisThe results of the treatment of the wind-cold peripheral facial paralysis show that all the patients are better off after the treatment, and the treating effect with the combination of acupuncture & western medical treatment is not only better than with single acupuncture treatment, but also better than single western medical treatment, and the statistics shows significant difference (p<0.05). The statistics shows no significant difference between single acupuncture treatment and single western medical treatment (p>0.05).6. The analysis of the nerve recovering after the treatment with the 3 above treating therapiesThe analysis of the nerve recovering after the treatment with the 3 above treating therapies: the treating effect of the nerve recovering with the combination of acupuncture & western medical treatment is better than with single acupuncture treatment or single western medical treatment. The treating effect of the nerve recovering with acupuncture treatment is better than western medical treatment.
