Objective To compare the effectivity of Holmium laser resection of bladder tumors(HOLBT) with transurethral electrovaporiation and resection of bladder tumors(TVBT), and evaluate the efficacy, safety, indication, and complications of Holmium YAG laser for the treatment of bladder carcinoma.Method 128 patients of bladder carcinoma were divided into two groups randomly, selected from patients in Department of Urology of Qilu Hospiptal from April 2004 to November 2004. Among 128 cases, 66 were treated with HOLBT and 62, TVBT. Different clinical aspects of the patients and tumours were considered. The significant markers in both groups were recorded and evaluated, included the number of tumours, total operative duration , blood loss in and after operation , the time of postoperative bladder irrigation and catheterization, and complications.Result The patients in both groups had comparable characteristics before surgery. No significant difference between the two groups was noted regarding number, progression of grade and stage and place and cases of recurrence(P>0.05). The mean volume of blood loss was less in and after operation with HOLBT (5.1 ± 5.5ml and 2.1±2.2ml) than that with TVBT(11.2± 6.3ml and 3.9±3.7ml), and marked difference was found between the two groups (all P< 0.01). Catheter duration (4.2 ± 2.8d), postoperative irrigation (13.1 ± 12.8h) and hospital stay (5.1 ± 1.8d) were less...
