Objective: To probe therapeutic effect of acupuncture therapy on subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy(SAE).Methods: 90 cases of SAE were evenly divided into two groups, a treatment group and a control group. The treatment group were treated with acupuncture plus duxil and the control group were treated with duxil. After treatment of 60 days, the therapeutic effects were assessed with neurological scores, HDS-R, and event-related potential P300.Results: The total effective rate was 84.44% in the treatment group and 62.22% in the control group. And the difference of the clinical effects between the two group was obvious (P<0.05). After the treatment there were significant differences in the HDS-R score (P<0.05).The combination of "Yuanluo Tongjing" acupuncture therapy and duxil might shorten the P300 peak latency of SAE patients but heighten the amplitude, and there were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion: "Yuanluo Tongjing" acupuncture therapy is better than simple duxil in therapeutic effect on SAE. Acupuncture is conducive to improvement of intelligence and nervous function.
