RESEARCH BACKGROUNDEarly in 1948, WHO had definitely brought forward that "health is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, but a complete state in physical, mental and social aspects," which means that mental health is an important component of health status. Along with the deep reform of socio-economic system, social competition and pressure has become more and more impetuous. Various kinds of psychological stress have much increased and caused much psychological and behaviorial problems. Mental health is becoming a significant public health problem. Therefore it is very significant to conduct such a study to understand mental health and its relevant factors among population. According to the available data, there is not a survey on mental health by using Kessler 10 in China. So this survey is an innovative study.RESEARCH OBJECTIVESTo understand mental health and explore relevant factors among residents aged and above fifteen years old in Weihai City. Through which we can provide scientific evidence for local health sectors to work out policies and conduct mental health intervention program. Meanehile we also can provide significant evidence for carrying out large scale mental health program in China.RESEARCH METHODSMulti-stage random sampling method was used to obtain sample. First of all, all the townships within each county were divided into three categories: high, middle and low according to the socio-economic development level. And then one township was randomly chosen from each category in each county, three townships were included into the sample in each opunty.
