Background:Mental health has become one of the themes of human health in the twenty-first century. The deepening socio-economic reform and increasing social competition in a period of social transition lead to a sharp increase of psychological stress and mental health problems highlights day by day. As for now there are many investigation and theory research about mental health. However, there are still some deficiencies. There is no simple scales available and the scales are not suitable for large-scale population which containing too many contents. Kessler 10(K10) is a brief self-management rating scale to discover people psychological risk factors, which has been used for mental health survey of large-scale population many times in the United States and Australia. Domestic rarely using K10 scale for rural resident survey is not so much.Objectives:The study surveyed rural residents in Dongying, Shandong province by face to face interview which used self-made questionnaire and Kessler10 scale. The purpose was to understand the basic situation of rural residents, analyse the mental health and deyerminants. In this foundation, policial suggestions were putted forward to improve the mental health of rural residents.Date and Methods:The study chosed sample by the stratified-cluster sampling method. Firstly, according to the social and economic development levels, all the townships of each country were sorted into 3 grades. And then 9 townships were randomly chosed from each grade. Thirdly,4 medium sized administrative villages were randomly chosed from each township according to different geographical location. Finally,50 families with different house numbers were randomly chosen by the systematic sampling method from each village. Each household residents aged 15 and above has been investigatedMain Results:1.67.2 percent of residents had the lowest K10 scores of 10-15,18.2 percent were in the lower range (16-21),9.9 percent in the low range (22-29) and 4.7 percent in the upper range (30-50).2. There were regional differences in demographic characteristics of residents. The constitutions of gender, age, marital, education level and occupation were both statistically significant.3. Mental health status of residents and deyerminants:①The mental health status was better among residents who were male,15-59 years old, college and higher education in Lijin Country.②Mental health status of residents whose family economic condition in the local or village at a high level and middle-level were better.③The mental health status was better among residents who had meals on time.④The less stress self-assessment, the better mental health was for residents.⑤The mental health status was better among residents who were not disabled.Conclusion and Suggestions:Conclusion:1) In general, the mental health of respondents in Dongying was preferable.2) The deyerminants of mental health were multiple, including demographic characteristics, family economic status and physical health and so on.Countermeasures and Suggestions:1) To strengthen the propaganda and education work of healthy culture, improve the healthy cultural identity of rural residents and cultivate a good way of life and health related behavior.2) To strengthen the social security system construction about rural poverty population and reduce psychological problems due to economic difficulties.3) To strengthen the mental health about focus groups in rural, especially for older people.
