Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of the Da Ming Yin 1, (with functions of replenishing qi and producting yin, activating blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis.) for treatment of nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR), and to explore the mechanism of treatment of NPDR.Methors: 50 NIDDM patients with NPDR were randomly assigned (25:25)to the treatment group (Da Ming Yin 1) and the controlled group(Doxium) . Ophthalmic examination, visual acuity testing , visual field testing, fundus flurescein angiograms (FFA) , Oscillatory potentials (Ops) and hematoloty/serum chemistry/ urnalysis with hemorheology tests after 3 months were used to evaluate the effects of Da Ming Yin 1 and calcium dobesilate. Respectively .Results:Da Ming Yin 1 can improve vision and inhibiting DR lesion growth .The percent of cases of improving ocular manifeststion was 92% , Doxium was 88% .both have statistically superior for clinical efficady . The blood and plasma viscosity , erythrocyte regatiaon index decreased significantly in Da Ming Yin 1 group and doxium group (p<0.05).Da is superor then doxium .The treatment group ampoitudes of Ops2, Ops3, and ΣOps changes were significiantly different (p<0.05) , wabelets of Ops was recovered from baseline statistically ,other ampoitudes of wavelets, summed ampoitudes and each wave in doxium group had no change from baseline statistically (p>0.05).
