The Incidence Of The Ocular Fundus Illness Of Blind And Low Vision And The Analysis Of Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes

Low vision is defined as if both of one person' s eyes were cured by operation or medicine or general refraction rectification, his visual function still be damaged, and his correct vision is less than 0.3(6/18) or visual field less than 10° , but he still has disability to do something with his part vision;Blind means that person's eyesight is less than 0.05, if his central vision is good, but the visual field is less than 10° but more than 5° , then he belongs to the third grade of blind, and if his visual field is less than 5° , then he belongs to the forth grade of blind. This study investigated hospital patients of 9 years in the first hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, analyzed the main eye ground illness, researched the characters of the traditional Chinese medicine syndromes of the main disease at first, and indicated the new path to cure the blind and low vision with Chinese medicine. Part one Literature researchThis study expounded the cognition of eye ground illness of Chinese medicine, the application of Chinese herb to cure blind and low vision, the statistics of the morbility and the etiologitical factors of blind and low vision, and the therapy advancement of the blind and low vision in modern medicine.Part two medical record 1.ObjectiveTo study the distribution of the morbility, the etiologitical factors and the age of the blind and low vision, and find the regularity of Chinese medicine syndromes of the main disease of the blind and low vision. 2.MethodWe adopted retrospective investigation to register the age, sex, illness and vision of 492 hospital patients of department of ophthalmology in the first hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from1996 to 2005, who met the selection standards of blind and low vision. Through this study, we analyzed the internal association and distribution of these factors. 3. Result? Among the hospital patients of ophthalmology department of the first hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 9 years, the case rate of blind is 11. 24% and the case rate of low vision is 2.18% in the eyeground diseases. The main eyeground diseases of blind are Glaucoma(27.43%). Retainal detachment (12.60%), Optic neuropathy(11.18%);while the main eyeground diseases of low vision are High myopia(3. 46%), Diabetic retinopathy(3. 05%), Glaucoma(2. 24%). The case rate of blind is as the same as the Ministry of Health of china did during 1998 to 1999, but which of low vision is lower obviously;and Glaucoma has the same attack rate in the diseases which caused the vision disability as the whole country' s investigation.(2) The blind and the low vision patient' s age distribution has two fastigiums. One peak is at 21 to 30 years old, another peak is at 61 to 70 years old. And with the increase of age, the proportion of the blind and low vision patients shows a tendency to increase progressively, there is the higher hump between 61 to 70 years old, and the curve becomes to decrease progressively after 71years old.(3) After treatment, there are three main diseases in the low vision patients: Glaucoma, High myopia. Optic neuropathy, it is the similar result as which investigated by internal and overseas, all of them appeared that both Glaucoma and High myopia were the main cause of low vision.Part three Conclusion1. The main etiological factors of blind and low vision are as follows: Glaucoma (29.67%), Retinal detachment (13.41%) and Optic neuropathy (12.80%) .2. The blind and low vision patient' s age distribution assumes the split-blip shape.3. Man has the biggish proportion in the blind and low vision.4. Glaucoma is the main disease to cause blind and low vision, the main analysis of traditional Chinese medicine syndromes of Glaucoma is the syndrome of excess, the proportion of which is 76.03%. There are all kinds of syndromes we can find in 61years old, syndrome of excess and deficiency both can be seenin 20 to 61years old. There is no obvious difference between all kinds of syndromes and the sex. And with the increase of the age, the syndromes become more complicated.5. Chinese herb has the obvious effect to cure the blind and low vision patient, and we hope there will be a new path which has no wound or has less wound to improve the visual functions of the blind and low vision patient.
