An effective type of retainer, possessing retention, support and a splinting action between multiple abutment teeth, is a double crown known as the telescope retainer. There are several advantages of telescopic retainer: These retainers provide adequate retention and proper stress distribution and satisfy the esthetic requirements by eliminating standard metal clasp. But the telescope is always made of gold alloy and pure titanium. It's too expensive to be popularized in China. The purpose of the task is to study the stress distribution and displacement of edentulous alveolar ridge of this kind of denture, which is made of different materials. Concluded from these results and by the point of view of dynamics, we can determine whether the telescope can be made of different material. An ideal three dimensional finite element model was constructed by using SCT image reconstruction technique, self-programming , AutoCAD and ANSYS software. Different static loads were applied. The stress and displacement characteristics of the alveolar ridge of these different types of materials, which form the metal part of the conical telescope, were compared and analyzed. We get the following result. First, generally, there is no statistic difference between four materials. the four materials produced almost the same stress anddisplacement at the site of the edentulous alveolar ridge. Second, the stress and displacement of the edentulous alveolar ridge increased slowly under different loads when the site extends posterior. The trend is more sharply when the distributed load was applied. The conclusions can be made from the results. From the point of view of dynamics, it is feasible that the metal part of conical telescope can be made of different materials. The edentulous alveolar ridge can be well protected by using conical telescope. When the condition of the edentulous alveolar ridge is not good, the diameter and contact area of the second molar should be reduced to protect the alveolar ridge.
