Study Of "Xiaoke" Eye Disease's Quality Of Life And Chinese Traditional Medicine (TCM) Syndrome

Recently, the number of the patients suffering from diabetes mellitus (DM) has increased remarkably. DM has become one of the main diseases which affect the health of human. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common and serious combination of DM and it has become one of the four leading causes of blindness. Now the cause for DR is still unknown and there is no effective method to prevent or cure it. Because treatment for DR is long-termed and complex, an alternative method, which is the prevention of the occurrence of complications, is being used. It helps to relieve the symptoms of the patient and improve the quanlity of life (QOL) in the modern biologic-physiological-social medicine mode. Investigating the relationship between the quality of life of the patients and the TCM syndrome can provide a new way of thinking and methods for the estimation of the curative effect of the integrity of TCM and western medicine. Under the guidance of my tutor, I have carried out this research base on integrating the cause of disease with the knowledge of Syndrome Differentiation, the dissert of DR by modern doctors, the research condition of DM and the quanlity of life of DR, and by using the unified sheet of quality of life of patients of DM in retrospective study, the study of the relationship between the quality of life and TCM Syndrome of DR can be carried out.1. Literature Review Refer to literatures to summarize the cognition of the cause of the disease and Syndrome Differentiation of DR by TCM, the dissert of DR by modern doctors. DM is named as "xiaoke" in TCM. It has been known by most of the doctors that the change of syndrome and signs of "xiaoke" eye disease is due to "yin deficiency and dry-hot" qi and yin deficiency yin and yang deficiency. Blood stasis phlegm-damp exist during the whole course. Modern doctors think that it is a progressive microangiopathy characterized by small vessel damage and microaneurysms, thickening of the capillary, and hemorrhages. It is enunciated by the study of doctors inside and outside our country that the essence of DR is reflected by the microangiopathy caused by the damage of the metabolism, endocrine, blood system, but the brash mechanism is still under investigation. This article describes the study condition of the quality of life of DM and DR and the influence of the treatment of the integrity of TCM and western medicines.
