Purpose By analyzing the different degree of exposure to some risk factors between sufferer of arteriosclerosis sbliterans of the lower limbs (AOLL) and persons without the disease, to find out the factors that correlate with AOLL, and to distinguish the notable risk factors. Methods A retrospective case-control study was applied to analyze the different exposure degree to some factors of the case and the control, the factors include sex, age, fatness, smoking, drinking, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular occlusion, hypercholesterolemia, augment of pulse pressure. While logistic regression was used to analyze the data in every single factor analysis and multi-factor analysis. About the highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), total cholesterol (CHO) level in the serums, and the ratio of HDL to CHO (HDL/CHO), of the case and the control, the t-test was used after homogeneity of variance test.Result The results of single factor analysis show that some factors like sex, fat and hypercholesterolemia, have no significant difference between the two group. Other factors have an effect on the taking place of ASO of the lower limbs. During multi-factor analysis about factors age, smoking, drinking, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular occlusion, hypercholesterolemia, the factors elected is age, smoking, diabetes, hypertension. When augment of pulse pressure was introduced as a possible risk factor, the factors age, smoking, diabetes, and augment of pulse pressure was elected. But hypertension factor became less important. What show the significant difference (p<0.001) of HDL/CHO ratio between the case and the control was the t-test about the ratio of the two group. Conclusions Among all the factors, sex, fat, and hypercholesterolemia have little correlation with the happening of ASO of lower limbs. The augment of pulse pressure is more significant than hypertension. It is important that the effect of HDL resist ASO of the lower limbs.
