Objective To investigate the methods and effect of vitrectomy in Eales disease and study the factors interrelated with visual prognosis of vitrectomy in Eales disease. Methods Among patients of Eales disease with vitrectomy from March, 1992 to June, 2004, 128 patients, who had a long term follow-up and who were recorded well, were selected in this study. The examination concerned with both of clinical factors and circled-vitrectomy factors. The former one included age, sex, right eye or left eye, vision , stages of disease, time from vitreous hemorrhage to vitrectomy, disease stages , classification of retinitis proliferans, state of retinal detachment and complication before vitrectomy. The latter contained therapy before vitrectomy, operation protocols applied, second operation, therapy after vitrectomy, vision and result after vitrectomy, and complication after vitrectomy. The software package SPSS 12.0 was applied for statistical analyses, including t test, x~2 test, one-way Anova method of square-deviation(SD), and logistic regression. The factors concerned with vision prognosis, outward prognosis, complication, and relapse were obtained respectively. Results 1. The age range of patients was 18—45 years , average was 28.5 years, and the time of follow-up was more than 3 months, average was 35.8 months. Before vitrectomy, there were 28 eyes of vitreous hemorrhage, 113 eyes of retinitis proliferans, 59eyes of second retina detachment. After vitrectomy, there were 129 eyes of operation success( successive retinal reduction or part retina reduction) and 13 eyes of operation fail (retinal detachment after two vitrectomy or eyeball atrophy). We got anatomic success in 129 eyes (90.8%), final VA of 96...
