As we known , Vascular Dementia(VD) is a kind of diseases which the elder were suffered easily after apoplexy. VD patients' symptoms are various which is concerned with the place . the area and times of injury on the brain. Most VD patients have lost their capability of memory and learning and calculating. VD has been one of the most active study fields all over the world.Although more and more researches show the morbidity of Vascular dementia (VD) arise, its mechanism has not been understood completely. In recent years, studies of the Chinese Medicine therapy of VD have been shown on the medicine papers and magazines. Some Chinese Medicine could increase the blood flow of the brain microvascular vessel and improve learning and memory capability of VD patients. According to the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the papers of clinic studies , the study choosed the HuoXueYiZhi Recipe (contained Radix Angelicae sinensis, Rhizoma Chuanxiong Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Rehmanniae. Radix Astragali, Herba Ecliptae, Fructus Ligustri lucidi, Fructus Alpiniae oxyphyllae Poria cum Radix pini Radix polygalae Rhizoma pinelliae preparatum) to treat the Vascular Dementia Model of rat (VDM). The study used VDM was formed by 2-vessel occlusion method and VDM was successful reproduced. It could copy the clinical feature of human VD and showed clearly the defection of learning and memory.Spatial learning and memory of VD rats were tested by Morris Water Maze and Shuttle after one month treatment of HuoXueYiZhi Recipe. At the same time the concentration Estrongen (estradiol) and ACTH in blood and tissue were tested and Hippocampal neurons were compared.The conclusions of the study showed HuoXueYiZhi Recipe could improve the learning and memory of VD rats and protect hippocampal neurons from injury. The effects were related to the concentration Estrongen and ACTH in blood higher. It may be regulate the nerve-endocrine system.
