As early as the pre-qin period, the exploration of traditional Chinese medicine theory (TCM) has made certain achievements. The diagnosis theory system of TCM has been represented as the basic pattern of inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and pulse-taking and palpation, which are shorted as Four Diagnoses in the classic Huangdi Neijing (later shorted to Nei Jing).So, the study of the diagnosis theory system of Nei Jing is much important. The development of the theoretical system of TCM is closely related to the evolution of theory system of Nei Jing. This essay is aim to draws the outline of Nei Jing theory evolution that has occurred, traces the reasons for the change, and reveals the law of those development and changes.This study tries to find as many relevant texts as possible to systematically summarize and analyze the diagnosis theory system of Nei Jing, from the aspects of Four Diagnoses. On the basis of all the study resources, the evolution of the diagnosis theory system of Nei Jing will be gradually analyzed. The first part of this essay is the evolution of the principle of diagnosis theory of Nei Jing. After that is the evolution of four diagnoses:face looking, tongue looking, pulse taking, skin pressing on elbow-to-wrist skin. At the end of this essay is the analysis of the evolution of all the five aspects above, which point out the final conclusion of the study.As to the reason of development and change of the diagnosis theory system of Nei Jing, it concluded to four aspects. Firstly, doctors are the main factors who inheritance and development the theories of Nei Jing. The annotators inheritance most of the theories of Nei Jing, while their own medical ideology are mixed in the annotations which development the theories of Nei Jing. And the clinical experience of other doctors is the main reason for the innovation of the theories of Nei Jing. Secondly, the linical practice needs are the fundamental driving force for the innovation of the theories of Nei Jing. Those non-practical theories will eventually shrinking, or even disappear. Thirdly and lastly, the development and change of political system, ideology and culture, science and technology of different ages have important impact on the development and change of the theories of Nei Jing.About the law of the change of the diagnosis theory system of Nei Jing, it concluded to two aspects. On the one hand, the inheritance of the core theory of Nei Jing is regared as the root cause of the development of TCM. The core theory of TCM including the Jing Qi theory, the Yin and Yang and five elements theory If the core connotation of the concept has changed, then the theory has been variated and not passed on. On the other hand, the prime motivation of theoretical innovation is to service for clinical. The achievement of TCM theory in the period of Nei Jing should be constantly inspected in the clinical practice, that lead to the inheritance, expanding or narrowing, deductive, integration and decomposition of it. The purpose of change is in order to meet the clinical needs. Such kind of change, which keeps the core connotation of TCM, is encouraged.
