Clinical Observation Of Acupuncture In The Treatment Of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Objective:Observe the effects of the scalp acupuncture on those diagnosed with the Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV),who fear the disease itself and vertigo developed from the Canalith Repositioning Procedure(CRP)or whose treatment effect on CRP is no ideal. In order to discuss the significance of acupuncture for the purpose of searching a method which is more effective and receptive by patients in clinical.Methods:The study recruit forty-six patients,including 3 patients discontinued during the treatment. Finally forty-three patients were randomly divided into two groups, treatment group and control group. Patients in the treatment group were treated with scalp acupuncture for two weeks, while these in the control group received the treatment of Betahistine Hydrochloride. Both groups were analyzed after 2 weeks,and recurrence was observed after 2 weeks. The evaluating item is Dizziness Handicap Iventory(DHI).Results:After 2 weeks treatment,the effective percentage of the treatment group and control group were 85.7% and 45.4%,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(2) After 2 weeks treatment,the clinical symptom of the treatment group was significantly decreased compared with the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(3) Two weeks later, reccurence in treatment group was much higher than reccurence of control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:For those who fear the disease itself and vertigo developed from the Canalith Repositioning Procedure(CRP) or whose treatment effect on CRP is no ideal, the effect of the treatment of scalp acupuncture is better than medicine.And Scapl acupuncture is easy,safe, effective,more likely to be accepted by the patients and the healing time can be shortened.
