This paper studied on the conversion products of swertiamarin which heated to hotwater. As an initial chemical result, twenty-five compounds were isolated by variouschromatographic techniques from water-soluble fraction of the conversion products. On thebasis of extensive spectroscopic and single-crystal X-ray crystallographic analyses,nineteen compounds were confirmed, including five new ones named as Swertivarisin I (1),Swertivarisin J (2), Swertivarisin K (3), Swertivarisin L (4), Swertivarisin M (5), the otherfourteen known compounds were identified as Angelone (6), Sweritivarisin A (7),gentiogenal (8), erythrocentaurin (9),(±)gentianol (10), erythrocentauric acid (11),Swerilactone F (12), Swertivarisin B (13), Swerilactone B (14), Swertivarisin G (15),Swertivarisin H (16), Swerilactone C (17), α, β-glucose (18), pyrocatechol (19).The plausible transformation way of some compounds such as erythrocentaurin,Sweritivarisin H and Sweritivarisin G was proosed. It can be concluded that both thesimple compounds and the new lactones have the same intermediate and the transformationway.Significantly, Swertivarisin J (2), Swertivarisin K (3), Swertivarisin A (7),Swerilactone F (12) and Swerilactone B (14) exhibited remarkable activity to improvingthe relative survival rate of liver cells.In addition, we summarized the research progress of plant resources, chemicalcompositions and pharmacological activities on the Swertia by consulting the literatures.
