ObjectiveTo investigate the status and correlation of humanistic quality and professional commitment of nursing undergraduates, try to find out the influencing factors in order to provide scientific basic for nursing administrators and educators.MethodsUse cluster sampling method to investigate498nursing undergraduates. Use the questionnaire method, the questionnaire is divided into three parts.①General Data Questionnaire:Including gender, age, grade, political affiliation, religious beliefs, whether the class cadre, only child or not and family home etc.②Humanistic Quality Questionnaire, which was made by myself. It includes the moral quality, cultural quality, legal quality, aesthetic quality and psychological quality. It was scored from1to5. The higher score represents a higher level of humanistic quality. The Content Validity Index (CVI) of the scale is0.9, the Cronbach’a is0.888, the test-retest reliability is0.856.③Nursing Professional Commitment Scale. This scale revised by Lu KY, including ’Willingness to make effort’,’Maintain as a membership’and’Belief in goals and values’. It was scored from1to5. The higher score represents a higher level of professional commitment. The Cronbach’a of this scale is0.93, the test-retest reliability is0.81. All statistical data was analyzed by using SPSS17.0software, which consists of descriptive analysis, t-test, variance analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis.ResultsHumanistic qualities of nursing students were in the middle level (3.79±0.420) According to the scores in descending order were the moral quality (4.46±0.421) psychological quality (3.83±0.511), aesthetic quality (3.78±0.653), cultural quality (3.52±0.500) and legal quality (3.26±0.789). Nursing students’ professional commitments were in the middle level (3.11±0.624). According to the scores in descending order were’Belief in goals and values’(3.59±0.709),’Maintain as a membership’(3.31±0.739) and’Willingness to make effort’(2.66±0.788). Different gender, different age, different grade, whether the class cadre, whether the one-child, family home etc. affect nursing students’humanistic quality and professional commitment. Pearson correlation analysis showed that humanistic quality was positively correlated with professional commitment (r=0.260,p<0.01)ConclusionHumanistic quality and professional commitment of nursing undergraduates were in the middle level. Their professional commitment can be enhanced by improving the humanistic quality. The survey to a certain extent reflects the current status of undergraduate nursing students’humanistic quality and professional commitment, and reflects the weak link of nursing humanistic education and vocational education. It prompts nursing educators have a more clear understanding to students’professional attitude and cognition. There are practical significances for stabling nursing students’ professional ideas in order to avoid the brain drain.
