Yam, as a high yield and high-efficient economic crops, has good nutritional and medicinal value. With the improvement of people’s living standard, people are paying more and more attention to yam. At present, excessive fertilization and blind fertilization seriously affect the yield and quality of yam. Scientific management of soil nutrients and rational use of fertilizers are major issues for yam growth. In the paper, we studied the effect of ecological formula fertilization on yam yield and quality, disease conditions and soil biological characteristics in Taigu and Pingyao of Shanxi province. It concluded that treatment2was the optimum fertilizing scheme and expected to be the special formulation for high-quality yam production. The main results were summarized as followings:(1) The biological fertilizer significantly improved the yield of yam. In Pingyao and Taigu experiment plots, T2treatment was the best fertilizing pattern, the yield were33.92t/hm2and31.69t/hm2, respectively. Compared with farmrs practice the yield were increased by11.69%and18.38%. Meanwhile, the biological fertilizer also increased the tuber number per hill, the thick and fresh weight of tuber and the rate of economic potato. Further, the biological fertilizer effectively improved the quality of yam, increased the content of crude protein, trace elements Zn and Mn and improved tuber viscosity, while the effect of T2treatment was better than Tl.(2) In Taigu and Pingyao experiment plots, the number of bacteria, actinomyces, fungi and microbes by using biological fertilizer were significantly higher than C1treatment during the period of growth. And the soil microbial total amount of T2treatment was10.27x1O6CFU·g-1and15.10x106CFU·g-1, respectively. The biological fertilizer also increase ammonifying bacteria amount and reduced denitrifying bacteria amount, which offered a better condition for yam growth. The different fertilization treatments had a remarkably influenced on leaf disease index. The biological fertilizer could lower the morbidity rate and disease index. Disease index of T2treatment was lowest, which was10.5%and9.4%in Taigu and Pingyao experiment plots.
