As a new type of pulsed power supply, compensated pulsed alternator(CPA) concentrates all the functions of energy storage, electromechanical conversion and power conditioning in one machine. These integrating advantages make it the promisingly compact power supply system suitable for electromagnetic rail gun. Now the researches of application of CPA are developed in many nations, and the research scale & technical level are improved greatly.This paper introduces the fundamentals of excitation system for air-core compensated pulsed alternator, and simulate the excitation and discharging process, give the parameters of power electronics system. The main content of this thesis are listed as follows:1) A general review on the operation principle, development and current research situation of the compensator is presented.2) A detailed description of fundamentals of excitation system for air-core compensated pulsed alternator is given, and compare structure and working modes of different excitation system which has already been finished, finally according to the design parameter, the main structure of the system is given.3) The math model of the compulsator is established, analyses the excitation and discharging process, simulate the excitation and discharging process.4) According to the design parameter and the result of the simulation, calculate the power electronics parameters of all parts of the compulsator.All the work this thesis has done can offer theoretical and experimental guides for the further design and discharge system experiment of CPA.
