A compensated pulsed alternator (CPA) concentrates all the functions of energy storage, electromechanical conversion and power conditioning in one machine. These integrating advantages make it possible to provide the appropriate pulsed power system for new concept electric guns. After trade offs the size, weight and efficiency, the CPA is believed the promisingly compact power supply system suitable for electromagnetic gun.The application research of CPA is developed in many countries presently, and the research scale and technical level are improved greatly. Aiming at applying as the pulsed power supply of electromagnetic gun, an air-core compensated pulsed alternator is designed and some key problems are resolved. The main content and contribution of this thesis are listed as follows. In the noumenon design, basic size of rotor is ascertained by its energy storage, the size of windings is obtained from hot checking, and from which the size of stator is confirmed. Since the CPA is an air-core machine whose stator and rotor are non-ferromagnetic material, there is prodigious difference between the air-gap flux density distribution of CPA and traditional machines. This paper derives the magnetic field generated by every single excitation winding, and calculates the air-gap flux density generated by all excitation windings through a method of superposition. That is the distribution of air-gap flux density. The equivalent inductance of armature winding is one of the most important parameters of CPA, which can influence the power of output impulse directly. Through predigestion, every winding can equivalent for rectangle winding. The self-inductor and mutual-inductor are derived, inductance parameters of windings are calculated, and the equivalent inductance of armature winding when the winding discharging is obtained. At last, line of magnetic force distribution and magnetic field density distribution when the armature winding discharging is acquired from simulation.
