A new shallow-slot split floating ring seal used in aerospace is introduced. Compared with the traditional radial ring seal, this seal has a split carbon graphite throttle with a circular tension spring and several shallow-slots distributed on the inner face of seal ring, which can produce a radial lifting force during operation and adjust automatically the smallest gap between the axis and the seal ring. It can avoid abrasion, insure lower leakage rate and have a better dynamic stability.A mathematical model with finite difference method based on the seal force analysis is built to analyze the performance with three types of ultra-low temperature liquid (liquid nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen) under the ultra conditions (ultra low temperature, high rotate speed and high pressure) separately. The steady seal performance, such as the pressure distribution, film floating force, seal clearance, leakage rate with the different conditions and parameters are calculated. The theoretical analysis of regulations has been done. The dynamic performances, including the stiffness and damping coefficients are given. Also, the reason of their regulations due to the change of working condition is discussed.The theoretical calculation results are compared with the experimental results which obtained by using liquid nitrogen as the lubricant. It shows that shallow-slot split floating ring seal can have a thin film, lower leakage rate stable performance and contact-free running under the some ultra aerospace conditions."Shallow-Slot Split Floating Ring Seal Performance Analysis Software"with GUI is developed based on theoretical models above.
