Industrial boiler is important heat and drive fountain in industrial production and life, it consumed sizeable proportion in energy sources. Combustion system for industrial boiler is a complicated time-varying and dynamic process, with obvious non-linearity, tight coupling, long time lags, and strong interference. So it's hard to achieve ideal control performance and higher rate of auto-control in operation with conventional control algorithms. It was a question for discussion problem in technical alteration and retrenching energy sources that improving thermal efficiency of boiler running, reducing expend of energy and decreasing the pollution of the environment. In base of model-free adaptive control, a PID controller with a model-free external loop as a compensator are used in the paper. The controller is built up based on modularized method. It is consists of two feedback loops. One is traditional PID loop The other is called model-free adaptive control (MFAC) based external loop, which is used to serve as a compensator for system tracking error. This method has very simple configuration and it is easy to apply. The combustion system is consist of there loops: load control loop, input wind control loop, furnace pressure control loop. A calculation model is been built up through analyzing and study of boiler. Control parameter is been applied by using heat balance and wind speed and air volume. A new way is given so that input coal and air volume is hard to measure can be solved. Many simulation results have demonstrated that the controller can better realize the control for boiler combustion and overcome to some extent the shortcomings of conventional algorithms.
