In this paper, taking the 27 counties of the coastal area of Shandong Province as studyingobject , based on the principle of landscape ecology, using RS and GIS as the main technique,the landscape type maps was obtained .On the basis of landscape ecological classification,landscape indexes were calculated using Fragstats 3.3. Then the author analyzed thecharacteristic of landscapepattern, and the formation of landscape pattern, which had relationsto natural conditions and human activities. AT last the author made landscape ecologicalevaluation put forward measures for landscape ecological construction.The conclusions are as follows.(1)Study on landscape patternComparing pattern indexes of every district on landscape level,the author gotthe followingconclusion. Landscape fragmentation degree is very serious in the coastal area of ShandongProvince, especially in developed districts. There is little difference in Mean fractal DimensionIndex of every district, and the shape is simple. Landscape diversity is pretty much the same,and Shannon's Diversity Index and Shannon's Evenness Index are the largest in Dongying.Contrary to Landscape fragmentation of displaying, Mean nearest-neighbor distance isrelatively little in developed districts. Patch Cohesion Indexes all exceed 99. 6000, and thewhole area is constructed by large patches.Comparing landscape pattern indexes of every district on Class level, the author got thefollowing conclusion .Agricultural fields has comparative advantage in every district, so it is thematrix. Landscape fragmentation degree is serious ,especially in rural settlement . There islittle difference in Mean fractal Dimension Index of every landscape type, and the shape issimple. Mean fractal Dimension Index is largest in agricultural fields with complexshape, and issmallest in rural settlement with simple shape. Mean nearest-neighbor distance is largest inurban land, then salt and marish, and is smallest in agricultural fields, then rural settlement.The whole area is constructed by large patches. Patch Cohesion Index is largest in agriculturalfields, and smallest in rural settlement.(2)Major factors for landscape pattern formationThe basic pattern is based on coastal geological environment .As a result of activebio-climate process, heterogeneous landscape is formed and rebuild with regionalcharacteristics.Human activity has a strong impact on landscape pattern.
