| The program model dissertation was developed to offer a synthesized non-denominational spirituality and scientific-based integrative setting for the comprehensive treatment of adolescents suffering from depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and trauma while residing in an aesthetically pleasing group home environment. The program sought to eliminate the stigmas associated with residing in group homes. The program offers a six-month treatment model using CBT, positive psychology, and spiritually-based activities for youth suffering from mental health disorders to challenge maladaptive beliefs and coping mechanisms while also teaching new and long-lasting healthy habits. Spiritual activities of the program include meditation, daily affirmations, progressive muscle relaxation, diaphragmatic breathing, and other activities preferentially identified by the youth. The program model will seek to not only reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety but also teach the youth habits to manage such feelings should new stressors arise. The dissertation describes the design of the new program and addresses limitations, ethical considerations, and future recommendations regarding adolescents suffering from depression while residing in foster care. |
