Smoking and health have been concerned by the government and the public for a long time.Chitosan?CS?has been reported as an adsorbent to reduce harmful componets in the smoke,but modified chitosan has not been reported.The four kinds of chitosan-based materials,such as 6-O-acetylhydrazidyl chitosan?AHCS?,6-aminoethyl amino-6-deoxygenation chitosan?ACS?,6-aminoethyl amino-6-deoxygenation chitosan/Fe3O4 compound?ACS/Fe3O4?and 6-aminoethyl amino-6-deoxygenation chitosan/graphene oxide compound?ACS/GO?were prepared and applied for adsorption of harmful components in cigarette mainstream smoke in this paper.Using chitosan and methyl chloroacetate as raw materials,AHCS was prepared and characterized by FT-IR and 1H NMR.Then,it was applied to the static adsorption of formaldehyde.The results showed that the saturated adsorption capacity of AHCS for formaldehyde was 173.84 mg·g-1.The adsorption kinetics of formaldehyde by AHCS was described by a quasi-first-order adsorption rate equation.The adsorption of formaldehyde by AHCS was increased with the increase of temperature.ACS was prepared by using chitosan,sulfoxide chloride and ethylene diamine as raw materials.It was characterized by FT-IR and 1H NMR.The adsorption of two kinds of metal ions,Cu???and Ni???,by ACS was studied.The results showed that the saturated adsorption capacities of ACS for Cu???and Ni???at room temperature were 98.95 and 50.91 mg·g-11 respectively.Temperature and pH had great influence on the whole adsorption process.The adsorption of Cu???and Ni???by ACS conformed to the Langmuir isotherm equation and the quasi-second-order kinetics model.ACS/Fe3O4 composite was prepared and applied to the adsorption of phenol as adsorbent.The experimental results showed that the saturated adsorption capacities of ACS and ACS/Fe3O4 for phenol were 140.85 and 156.25 mg·g-1 respectively.The adsorption was consistent with the Freundlich adsorption model and Langmuir adsorption model,and could be described by the quasi-second order adsorption rate equation.The adsorption of ACS and ACS/Fe3O4 for phenol was also increased with the increase of temperature.ACS/GO composite was prepared and applied to the adsorption of aniline as adsorbent.The experimental results showed that the saturated adsorption capacities of ACS and ACS/GO for aniline were 78.13 and 136.98 mg·g-1 respectively.The adsorption of aniline by ACS/GO conformed to the quasi-second order kinetic model.The increase of temperature was beneficial to the adsorption of aniline by ACS/GO.The four materials mentioned above were used as additives in the filter rod of cigarette.The experimental results showed that the four materials could reduce the seven harmful components in smoke to different degrees,which was CO,HCN,NNK,NH3,BaP,crotonaldehyde and phenol.The cigarette harm index?H?of conventional filter,CS filter,AHCS filter,ACS filter,ACS/Fe3O4 filter and ACS/GO filter were 8.04,7.31,7.11,6.78,6.91 and 6.92,respectively,and in which ACS filter was the least.Compared with the conventional filter,CS filter and the other four filters had better adsorption for the seven harmful components of smoke.ACS filter had significant adsorption effect on phenol and crotonaldehyde.ACS/Fe3O4 filter had significant adsorption effects on CO,NNK and NH3.ACS/GO filter had significant adsorption effects on NNK,NH3 and BaP.The results showed that the four chitosan based materials could be used in cigarette filter to reduce the harmful components in cigarette mainstream smoke.
