Medical and health services, as closely related to people’s livelihood and welfare, play a crucial role in the harmonious development of economic society. Since the new medical reform in 2009, hospital information system (HIS) has become one of the most important objectives of the medical reform. Accordingly, HIS has gained increasing attention in medical institutions. Thereafter during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" in 2011, what has been emphasized is the deepening of the reform of medical system and the establishment of a practical HIS, in which medical information resources can be shared in order to ensure the real value of information technology in hospital management.HIS, as an inevitable choice adapting to hospital reform, is hopefully expected to solve common difficulties of outpatients, improve the quality of medical services, achieve the scientific management of hospitals, and ameliorate the social and economic benefits. How to improve patient satisfaction and doctor-patient relationship via the establishment and application of hospital information technology and HIS, ensuring the continual use of the system by medical staff, and thus enhancing their performance? How to better the quality of medical services and ultimately improve 1 social and economic benefits of hospitals? The above-mentioned questions have ever been hot issues of concern and research addressed by scholars and hospital administrators.Previous studies on information adoption specifically targeting medical field are limited, and the recent researches mainly address the issue from the macro level, while there exists a lack of studies on it from the micro level combined with the macro policy. Therefore, the investigation of the effect of HIS on medical quality and management level from the micro level has marked theoretical and practical significance.Focusing on the above problems, based on the summary of influencing factors of information technology adoption, hospital performance management and doctor-patient relationship in studies both at home and abroad, and starting from related issues like hospital information system, hospital management, medical staff performance and patient satisfaction, the present study investigates the effect of the sustainable use of HIS in hospital management on patient satisfaction, the relationship between the implementation of HIS and the management level of hospitals, and the influence mechanisms, mainly in view of theories like acceptance model, theory of planned behavior, as well as group effectiveness. Moreover, the study thereby puts forward the corresponding policies and suggestions. This paper launches elaboration from the following five aspects:Firstly, it reviews and analyses the research status and theoretical basis at home and abroad, which provides a solid basis for the design of questionnaires and this study as well. Furthermore, the starting point of this study is derived through summarizing the previous researches and the existing limitations. Secondly, it explores the impact of HIS on hospital management and the relationship framework. The study analyzes the impact on individuals, organizations as well as the doctor-patient relationship by the use of HIS, builds the framework of influencing factors of HIS on hospital management, and highlights the research focus and direction by blending the three researching aspects effectively. Thirdly, it discusses the impact of HIS on the work of medical staff. In light of the original theory of planned behavior, this study adds the "habit" and other related variables, and explores the effect of HIS on the performance of hospital medical staff and the whole hospital in general through the expanded theory model of planned behavior. Fourthly, it elaborates on the impact of HIS on hospital management performance. In view of the study of information system implementation and the level of hospital management based on group effectiveness theory of organizational behavior and the leadership behavior of PM theory, this study puts forward three hypotheses and constructs the model which covers these assumptions. On the basis of the relationship and the mechanisms among HIS implementation, group effectiveness and the level of hospital management, the present study brings up some corresponding countermeasures and suggestions. Next, it discusses the mechanism of HIT in improving doctor-patient relationship. Taking patients as the research object and based upon model of technology acceptance theory and patient satisfaction, this study investigates the influence mechanism of HIS on patient satisfaction and raises some guiding proposals.Lastly, this paper comes up with some comments and suggestions concerning the technology, hospital and government in order to enhance the level of hospital management. Meanwhile, it indicates that despite the abundance and harvest of research in information adoption, there are still many problems which need in-depth exploration, such as information adoption in medical industry, the acceptance and development of mobile medical service etc.The main breakthroughs of this paper are as follows:Firstly, a series of theories like the technology acceptance model, satisfaction, group effectiveness, the theory of planned behavior and so on are applied specifically to the medical field. Besides, the unique research model is established by adding related variables, thereby enriching and developing these theories through relevant conclusions drawn from the empirical research.Secondly, the research covers almost all users of HIS, not only from the perspective of patients, but from that of the medical staff and management, the internal users of HIS. By building a new research frame from both perspectives, an in-depth analysis was carried out into the impact of HIS on patients, medical workers and their performance, and the related mechanisms as well.Thirdly, this paper probes into the effect of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and habit on the willingness of accepting HIS and user behavior. It raises some advice for the further popularization, acceptance and improvement of HIS in hospitals, improving the performance of medical staff and the overall management of hospitals.Fourthly, the paper has conducted a quantitative empirical research into the relationship between the implementation of HIS, group effectiveness and hospital management. Accordingly, countermeasures and suggestions are brought up based upon the positive correlation among the three.Last but not least, this paper also investigates the effect of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, perceived risk and social factors on persistent willingness of patients to use HIS by an empirical research. Additionally, it proposes some corresponding measures to improve the satisfaction of patients, and to ameliorate the doctor-patient relationship.
