Part I Study on the Relationship Between the Recurrence of Craniopharyngioma and the Pathological TypeObjective To explore the relationship between the recurrence of CP and the pathological type by analyzing the data of pathological type and recurrence of CP, which may contribute to the prognosis analysis and therapeutic regimen for CPMethods This article collects the data of230patients who underwent surgical treatment for CP in neuro surgery department of Wuhan Union Hospital during the period from Jan.2000to Dec.2012.We select cases which contain definite pathological type data and can be successfully followed up from these patients. Finally we get59cases which contain35adamantinomatous CP type and24squamous papillary CP type, and then investigate their recurrence.. There are36male patients and23female patients in the group whose age ranges from2years old to66years old. The data collected by clinical review and follow up is analyzed by the statistical software SPSS ver.19.0. Chi-square test is adopted to compare if there is significant differences between the recurrence rate of the two subtypes. And then we use SPSS to draw cumulative recurrence plot with method of Life Table and Kaplan-Meier, in which P value that less than0.05is considered statistical significant. Results Among the59CP patients who receive the follow-up, there are35adamantinomatous CP subtypes which contain13recurrent cases (recurrence rate37.1%) and24squamous papillary CP subtypes which contain3recurrent cases (recurrence rate12.5%). Chi-square test shows that the difference of recurrence between the two CP subtypes has statistical significance (P<0.05)。With the help of SPSS, we draw the cumulative recurrence plot by Life Table and Kaplan-Meier method and find that the recurrence rate of adamantinomatous CP is higher than that of squamous papillary CP. Their cumulative recurrence rate has significant differences (P<0.05)Conclusion The recurrence rate of CP patients with different pathological type is significantly different. Pathological type is an important risk factor for the recurrence of CP. Part II Study on the Relationship Between the Recurrence of Craniopharyngioma and Patients’AgeObjective To collect the age data of CP patients who underwent surgical treatment, analyze the recurrence data by follow-up and study the relationship between the recurrence of CP and Patient’s Age.Methods This article collects the data of230patiens who underwent surgical treatment for CP in neurosurgery department of Wuhan Union Hospital during the period from Jan.2000to Dec.2012. We select cases whose age ranges from0years old to60years old which can be successfully followed up. Finally we get97cases which contain63male patients and34female patients. Then we divide these cases into two groups——the pediatric group whose age ranges from0to20and the adult group whose age ranges from21to60.The data collected by clinical review and follow up is analyzed by the statistical software SPSS ver.19.0. Chi-square test is adopted to compare if there is significant difference between the two groups in recurrence rate. And then we use SPSS to draw cumulative recurrence plot with method of Life Table and Kaplan-Meier, in which P value that less than0.05is considered statistical significant. Results Among the97CP patients who receive the follow-up, there are40patients in pediatric group which contains13recurrent cases (recurrence rate32.5%) and57patients in adult group which contain9recurrent cases (recurrence rate15.8%). Chi-square test shows that the difference of recurrence between the two CP subtypes has no statistical significance (P<0.05)。With the help of SPSS, we draw the cumulative recurrence plot by Life Table and Kaplan-Meier method and find that there is no significant difference between pediatric group and adult group in recurrence rate. Conclusion The recurrence rate of CP patients at different age is not significantly different. Age is not an important risk factor for the recurrence of CP. Part Ⅲ Study on the Relationship Between the Pathologic type of Craniopharyngioma and Patients’AgeObjective To study on the relationship between the pathological Type of craniopharyngioma and patient’s age. Methods This article collects the data of230patiens who underwent surgical treatment for CP in neurosurgery department of Wuhan Union Hospital during the period from Jan.2000to Dec.2012. We select cases which contain definite pathological type data. Finally we get68cases which contain38male patients and30female patients. Then we divide these cases into two groups——the pediatric group whose age ranges from0to20and the adult group whose age ranges from21to60.The data collected by clinical review and follow up is analyzed by the statistical software SPSS ver.19.0. Chi-square test is adopted to compare if there is significant difference between the two groups in proportion of adamantinomatous and squamous papillary CP subtype, in which P value that less than0.05is considered statistical significant. Then we use variance analysis to explore the correlation between the two variants. Results Among the31patients in pediatric group, there are27adamantinomatous and4squamous papillary CP subtypes. Among the37patients in pediatric group, there are11adamantinomatous and26squamous papillary CP subtypes. Chi-square test shows that the difference of recurrence between the two CP subtypes has statistical significance (P<0.05)。Variance analysis indicates significant correlation between age and pathological type. Conclusion There exists significant difference among patients at different age in the pathological type of CP.
