Since medical education is prospective, periodical and continuous, the fast development of life science and biological high-tech, which causes fundamental changes in prevention, diagnosis and treatment method and mode of human diseases, initiates our meditation on the effect of front fields of life science on medical education and its countermeasures. The author hopes the research will be of some use in decision-making of medical education transformation and cultivation of all-round medical students. The study integrates achievements of system science, life science, medicine and pedagogy to define the frontier subjects of life science, analyzes their effect on medical education and proposes countermeasures by depth-interview with experts, expert questionnaire, bibliographic analysis and theoretical analysis. The study is of six parts:Part 1: Important achievements and characteristics of modern life science and influential factors on life science were discussed.Part 2: The author brought about the representative frontier subjects of life science, that is, genomics, proteomics, system biology, biochip technique, bioinformatics, nanometer biotechnology, tissue engineering and stem cells, and convergence technique, and analyzed their characteristics and significance.Part3: Based on comparing the international standards of medical education, educational goal and medical curriculum in China and developed countries, the author elucidated the main problems in Chinese medical education.Part4: The author consulted about the important degree of frontier subjects of life science and their teaching contents and methods in medical curriculum.Part5: The effect of frontier subjects of life science on educational goal, teaching content, teaching resources, curricula and learning style was explored.Part6: The author proposed the following countermeasures: creating concept of macro-medicine education, cultivating stem cell-typed students, establishing open curriculum system, strengthening thorough education of undergraduates, setting up cross and comprehensive subjects, teaching front subjects, improving educational methods and training teaching staff, constructing experiment bases and forming informationalization.
