According to my tutor, Prof. Dong Guirong's clinical experience of peripheral facial paralysis in acupuncture, these clinical and experimental studies have been made to research the effects and mechanisms on acupuncture treatment of peripheral facial paralysis with spininess and shallow needling. 336 cases of peripheral facial paralysis were divided into two groups—the treatment group which was acupunctured with spininess and shallow needling in the progressive stage (1~7d) and the control group which was acupunctured with spininess and shallow needling in the resting stage (8~20d). Each group had 168 cases. The clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated by classification and quantification for symptom and physical sign of peripheral facial paralysis disease. Amplitude and latency period of EMG of two groups before and after treatment were measured. Experimental Studies adopted the rats' peripheral facial paralysis model by using clamp injured facial nerve and divided into the model group and the treatment group which was cured by acupuncture treatment of spininess and shallow needling. The results as follows:1. The clinical studies showed that:It was an effective way to cure peripheral facial paralysis by acupuncture treatment with spininess and shallow needling, not only in the progressive stage but also in the resting stage. The effective rate of acupuncture treatment in the progressive stage and the resting stage was 98.81% and 94.05% respectively. There were statistically significant differents between the treatment group and the control group (P<0.01). The results showed that acupuncture treatment of peripheral facial paralysis with spininess and shallow...
