Land transfer is an effective way to solve the current problems of fragmentation, idleness, and decentralization of comprehensive land use in rural areas, which is of great significance for optimizing rural land resources, improving comprehensive land efficiency, and promoting the modernization of agriculture and rural areas. With the comprehensive promotion of rural revitalization, government departments, and academics are highly concerned about the issue of rural land transfer and farmers’ employment. For many consecutive years, the No.1 central documents have made special deployments on farmers and land issues.Among them, the No.1 central document for 2023 clearly pointed out that it is necessary to guide the land management rights transfer orderly and agricultural scale operation develop moderately. At present, with the high-quality development of the economy and society, the urbanization rate is increasing, with more and more farmers entering the city and engaging in various industries,part-time farming has become a common form.At the same time,as farmers go out to work and move to the cities, rural land abandonment is becoming an increasingly serious phenomenon, resulting in a large amount of waste of arable land resources.Farmers are the major participant in agricultural production, and their proportion of the non-farm income will affect the disposal methods of land, dividing it into different forms gradually.Studying the influence of part-time farming on land transfer has become a hot topic. In this context, based on the theory of farmers’ behavior, the theory of separation of three rights, and the theory of economy of scale, this paper selects 15 townships in three cities belonging to the Jianghan Plain in Hubei Province as the study area, takes 765 samples, and analyzes the influence of farmers’ part-time employment on farmers’ farmland transfer behavior by constructing binary logit models and Tobit models, and also studies the influence of farmers’ human characteristics, natural characteristics, social The influence of three different factors, such as human characteristics, natural characteristics, and social characteristics of farmers,on farmers’ farmland transfer behavior was also studied.Since the final regression results may be different based on different indicators and methods, this paper adopts Probit model and OLS model for robustness testing respectively, which makes the conclusions of this paper more scientific and reliable. Finally,on the basis of the empirical results, corresponding countermeasure suggestions are put forward. There are six chapters in this paper. The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the background of this paper, the significance of the research, and a review of domestic and foreign research on farmland transfer and farm household part-time employment. The second chapter introduces the concepts and theoretical foundations of this paper, including farmers, farming and farmland transfer, and points out the theories of farmers’ economic behavior, the theory of separation of powers and the theory of economy of scale, which provide theoretical support for this paper.Chapter 3 provides an overview of the research area, research methods and data sources, detailing the overall situation of 765 research in the Jianghan Plain, describing the sources of 765 household data, and analyzing the basic economic and social characteristics of the data, finding that although more than half of the farm households are involved in agricultural part-time work, the rate of farm households’ participation in land transfer is relatively small.Chapter 4 is the influence of farming part-time employment on farming households’ farmland transfer behavior.Farming land transfer decision and farming households’ farmland transfer degree are selected as the explanatory variables, farming part-time employment as the explanatory variables, and family size, education level, health level, irrigation condition, soil fertility, machine farming condition, frequency of using network, collective economic status, and distance of township as the control variables, and two models of Logit and Tobit are constructed We found that farmers’ part-time employment did not have a significant effect on farmland transfer and the degree of farmland transfer, but education and collective economic status had a significant positive effect on farmers’ land transfer decision, soil fertility had a significant negative effect on farmers’ land transfer decision, and education and collective economic status had a significant negative effect on farmers’ land transfer decision. The collective economic status has a significant positive effect on the land transfer rate of farming households. In Chapter 5,the influence of farmers’ part-time employment on farmers’ farmland switching behavior is presented, and farmland switching and farmers’ farmland switching degree are selected as explanatory variables, farmers’ part-time employment is selected as explanatory variables, and household size, education level, health level, irrigation condition, soil fertility, machine farming condition, frequency of using network, collective economic status, and distance of township are selected as control variables. The empirical analysis was conducted by using Probit model and OLS model respectively, and it was found that farmers’ part-time employment would have a significant positive influence on farmers’ farmland transfer behavior and farmland transfer rate, while health condition would have a significant negative influence on farmland transfer.Chapter 6 presents the research conclusions and policy recommendations. It is found that(1)farming households’ part-time employment will have a significant positive influence on farming households’ farmland transfer behavior;(2)farming households’ part-time employment will have a significant positive influence on farming households’ farmland transfer rate;(3)no correlation between farming households’ part-time employment and farming households’ farmland transfer behavior and farming households’ farmland transfer degree is found for the time being. Finally, based on the findings of this paper, the following suggestions are drawn:(1)to smooth the channels of farm households’ part-time employment;(2)to vigorously develop leading rural industries;(3)to continuously increase the scale of farmland transfer. |
