Since the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative,it has been an important development opportunity for China to follow the new path of globalization, providing new opportunities to improve the quality of economic development of domestic provinces and cities. This paper compares domestic and international research on the "Belt and Road" initiative and high-quality economic development, and finds that there are few studies on how the "the Belt and Road" initiative affects the quality of provincial economies along China’s routes, and there are shortcomings This paper analyzes how China’s provincial economic quality is affected by the "the Belt and Road" initiative. This paper analyzes the high quality development of China’s provincial economy, discusses the impact of the "the Belt and Road" initiative on the high quality development of China’s provincial economy along the route, and further studies its mechanism, which is of great practical significance to understand the level of China’s high quality economic development and its spatial distribution characteristics, and improve the level of China’s high quality economic development, especially the provinces along the "the Belt and Road" route. This paper utilizes the data of 30 provinces and cities in China from 2002 to 2020 to constitute a panel data for empirical research. The economic quality development index system is established from five dimensions: economic development,innovation-driven,openness to the outside world, green ecology and people’s well-being,and the entropy weight method is used to measure the weight of each index and calculate the index of economic quality development level of 30 provinces except Tibet. The spatial autocorrelation model was used to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of the spatial correlation;the double difference method was used to analyze the effect of the "the Belt and Road" initiative on the promotion of high-quality economic development, and the experiment was retested by the double difference propensity score matching method;the "counterfactual" test was used to test the robustness of the previous results;the intermediary model was used to explore the mechanism of the "the Belt and Road" initiative to promote the high-quality economic development of the provinces along the route. The research results show that: first, from the inter-provincial level,in recent years, the level of China’s high-quality economic development has been on a stable upward trend, with a large development gap between regions, and the overall distribution still shows a developed eastern and less developed central and western region;second, there is a significant positive spatial correlation and spatial agglomeration in the status of China’s provincial high-quality economic development;third, the "the Belt and Road" initiative Third, the implementation of the "the Belt and Road" initiative has significantly improved the level of high-quality economic development in China’s provinces along the route;Fourth, the "the Belt and Road" initiative can promote high-quality economic development in China’s provinces along the route by promoting industrial integration, increasing financial support, and strengthening infrastructure connectivity.
