With the rise of global knowledge economy,innovation has become a key factor for enterprises to competitive and make excellent performance.With the acceleration of technological update,innovation is becoming more and more complex.It is critical for enterprise to establish connections with external organizations such as government,enterprises and universities to obtain various resources needed by the organization for innovation.The establishment of external connections also needs to pay a certain cost.At the same time,the internal knowledge capacity of an enterprise will affect the play of external resources of the enterprise,so it is worth studying how to choose and establish connections with different types of external organizations according to the internal knowledge ability of the enterprise,so as to improve its innovation performance.Employing a dataset of listed companies in China,from 2012 to 2017,this thesis found that:(1)Firms with business connections,particularly firms with more academic connections—have a higher innovation performance than their non-connected counterparts.(2)Ascribed bureaucratic connections inhibits the improvement of firm innovation performance;while achieved political connections has positive impact on enterprise’s innovation performance.(3)Internal knowledge recombination potential will weaken the impact of academic connections;but contribute to the impact of industry connection.(4)Internal knowledge recombination potential has no moderation effect on negative relationship between ascribed bureaucratic connections and firm innovation performance;but will contribute to the impact of achieved political connections.(5)This thesis enrichis social network theory and knowledge recombination theory.It provides suggestions for enterprises to establish social associations in carrying out innovation activities according to the characteristics of internal knowledge. |
