Research On The Influence Of Integrated Development Of Rural Industries On Urban-rural Income Gap

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that the most arduous and heavy task of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way still lies in the rural areas.To promote the revitalization of the countryside,we must adhere to the priority development of agriculture and rural areas,adhere to the integrated development of urban and rural areas,focus on promoting the common prosperity of all people,and resolutely prevent polarization.At present,one of the main manifestations of China’s unbalanced and insufficient development is the gap between urban and rural areas,especially the income gap between urban and rural residents.The No.1 Central Document of2023 insisted that the development of rural industries is an important means to promote the continuous increase of farmers’ income.The integrated development of rural industries is conducive to widening the channels for farmers to get rich and narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas.However,the integrated development of rural industries in China is still in the primary stage,and the integrated development model and related policy system are still immature.Whether the integrated development of rural industries can effectively narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas still needs further exploration.This is the starting point of this paper.The main research content of the paper is as follows:(1)To expound the research background and significance,sorts out domestic and foreign research literature related to the integrated development of rural industries and urban-rural income gap,summarizes the literature and puts forward the research innovation and value of this paper;(2)To analyze the mechanism of the role of integrated development of rural industries on the urban-rural income gap based on the definition of relevant concepts and theoretical foundations,and put forward our research hypotheses;(3)To select indicators to measure the index of integrated development of rural industries and the urban-rural income gap in 31 provinces(including autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government)from 2008 to2019,and analyze the current situation of integrated development of rural industries and the urban-rural income gap in general and locally respectively,based on the measurement results;(4)To conduct benchmark regression analysis and regional heterogeneity analysis on the impact of integrated rural industrial development on urban-rural income gap using fixed-effects model;construct a panel threshold model with rural economic development level and urbanization level as threshold variables to further investigate whether the impact effect of integrated rural industrial development on urban-rural income gap will be constrained or promoted by rural economic development level and urbanization level;(5)Based on the current development status and empirical conclusions,the paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to narrow the urban-rural income gap for the integrated development of rural industries from four aspects: innovating the mode of integrated development of rural industries,implementing the regional differentiated integrated development strategy,continuously improving the level of rural economic development and accelerating the pace of new urbanization construction.The main conclusions of the study are(1)the level of rural industrial integration development in China is generally on the rise,but there are significant regional differences,and the level of rural industrial integration development in the eastern region is much higher than that in the central and western regions;(2)the urban-rural income ratio in China has been decreasing year by year since 2018,but the absolute urban-rural income gap still continues to expand;(3)rural industrial integration development can significantly reduce the urban-rural income gap,and there are obvious regional heterogeneity characteristics,the convergence effect of rural industrial integration development on the urban-rural income gap is most obvious in the central region,followed by the western region and the worst in the eastern region;(4)there is a significant double-threshold effect of rural economic development level on rural industrial integration development to narrow the urban-rural income gap,when the rural economic development level is greater than 8.915,only when the rural industrial integration development When the level of urbanization is less than 0.377,the rural industrial integration development will lead to the expansion of the urban-rural income gap,and when the level of urbanization is greater than 0.377,the rural industrial integration development can significantly reduce the urban-rural income gap.
